Orange Coast Chapter is proud to have a very diverse technical base of materials and industries. Through the years Orange County has been involved in the space race in the 60's with Rockwell, Boeing, McDonnell-Douglas, and Lockheed. It has been instrumental in the advance of medical devices, which has now become an industrial hub for the Biomedical industry, and playing a significant role in the evolvement of the electronics industry.
If industry isn't enough, our West is framed by the Pacific Ocean having Huntington Beach which is touted as the best surf spot for is consistency of good waves and "The Wedge" for the adrenalin rush of its high thrills and danger. To the East is the Coastal Range Mountains which provide hiking and mountain bike trails from there to the coast. And, in between is the birthplace of Mickey Mouse at Disneyland and the cool shade of palm trees.
The Oldest Industrial Complex is the Smelting and Candle making pits of the Native Indians with the Spanish Missionaries at San Juan Capistrano Mission. ASM International has recognized its position in materials history by dedicating a plaque in 1975. The mission was in production of forged iron works for weapons and construction in 1776 as well as candle making and wine making. Besides having a rich history with past US President visits it is the most painted adobe structure with its mesmerizing arches splashed by brilliant color of the garden's wild flowers.
