High Performance Hybrid Structures through Engineered Strip Metals
Abstract:
Most alloys are designed to meet one or two performance criteria. However, sometimes engineers are challenged to meet multiple objectives in a single material. The presentation will cover ways to join multiple alloys together to create hybrid strip materials. Commercial scale technologies such as cladding, electron beam welding, continuous profiling, and electroplating will be discussed, that enable alloy combinations to create unique combinations of properties and geometries. These techniques are commonly used to make components such as wire bond lead frames, connectors, battery bus bars, terminals, resistors, switches, relays for end markets such as automotive, consumer electronics, medical and energy. Some newer applications involving the use of these technologies to solve problems will also be presented.
