Symposium Poster Competition
Two poster competition finalists will be chosen the day of the symposium and will each receive $500 to be used to attend any 2012 ASM conference.
Call for Poster Competition Judges
Attendees of the symposium are invited to serve as judges of the poster competition. Those interested in being a judge should send an e-mail to [email protected].
In Order to Participate in the Poster Competition
Those wishing to participate in the poster competition must submit a PDF version of the poster they wish to display at the symposium. The PDF must be in the format described in the Poster Format section of this page. The PDF file must be saved as Author_Title of Poster. Minor changes may be made to the poster after submission of the PDF.
PDFs of participants must be e-mailed to [email protected] by 11:55pm on November 3rd. Ten poster PDFs will be chosen to compete in the competition on the day of the symposium. Those who submitted a PDF will find out via e-mail either way if they will be presenting their poster at the symposium by November 8th.

Poster Format
Poster PDFs and posters to be displayed at the symposium must meet the following criteria:
- Topic of poster must be relevant to the area of biomedical materials
- Title of poster and authors should be prominently displayed and easy to locate
- Must acknowledge this November 14th, 2011 ASM OC/MATSCI Symposium at UCI on the poster
- Posters should be confined within 5 ft height and 3.5 ft width. Easels and poster boards to mount posters onto will be provided for poster competition participants.
Judging Criteria for PDF Posters
The following criteria will be used to select posters for the competition:
- Correct poster format
- Relevance to biomedical, material challenges
- Impact of proposed research on biomedical, material field
- Novelty of research
- Clarity and presentation of poster
